Blue Cave

One of the important attractions of the island and a main reason to go to Megisti, Kastellorizo and see this wonderful geological miracle. The cave is also called the Hole and Fotsaliki.

Museum

At the location below the castle of the port you find the archeological museum of the island. The rooms are organized chronologically. The first is dedicated to ancient Megisti with important findings. The second is dedicated to the first Christian years up to the Byzantine period. In the last room there are costumes and cottages from the traditional house of the 19th century.

Folklore Museum

The folklore museum is located in the old Mosque and is worth visiting to learn more about the history of the island.

Palaiokastro

The ancient acropolis of Megisti situated on the hill of Paleokastro and built during the 4th century BC, was the central fortified settlement of the island. The extensive interventions in the fortification wall structure date In the Middle Ages. The newer churches, the artillery and the damage caused by the bombardmentsare proof to the island’s diverse history.

Saint George

If you are fit try to climb the 400 steps leading to the Monastery of Agios Giorgis tou vounou which was built in 1759. Inside the Monastery there is the catacomb of Agios Charalambos and there is a small spring that gushes water.

Lycian Tomb

It is a tomb of the 4th century BC, carved at the foot of the Castle which is still a monument you can visit. The inhabitants of the region of Asia Minor were called Lycians because their god, Lycius Apollo, was worshipped as a wolf.

The castle

The fortress was rebuilt by the Knights of St. John in the 13th century on the site built by the overseer, Sosicles Nicagoras in ancient Greek times.

There are many trails on the island and those who love nature and not only can explore the island and see its beauty and learn more about its history.

Sculptures by Alekos


Alexandros Zygouris is a sculptor who has lived in Megisti, Kastellorizo for the past 35 years and has created a wonderful project which is located next to the Megisti Hotel on a small path.

There is also a workshop in the building next to the sculptures that you can visit when you are on the island.
